How to stop worms from eating your dead body

Calvin Trillian, one of my favorite poets, wrote the perfect poem about how to stop one of death’s most gruesome nightmares. it was on page 13 in the September 17–27 issue of one of my favorite magazines: The Nation.

He wrote this:

Animal Dewormer as Covid Preventative

Joe Maga heard the anti-vaxxers say

Dewormer, not the vaccine, kills those germs.

Joe Mage died of Covid. Joe is gone.

His body, though, remains quite free of worms.

This wasn’t his only exceptionally perceptive poem about our current pandemic. In The Nation’s September 23–30 magazine, he cited why the supporters of those who spread false notions about Covid may someday be in decline:

Unintended Consequences

Republicans object to masks

While going about their daily tasks.

To rule that folks must vaccinate,

They say, makes this a Nazi state.

The surges now are all located

Among those proud unvaccinated.

And counties voting red have two

Times Covid cases more than blue.

If leadership maintains this pace,

They may someday kill off their base.

Mr. Trillian’s 87 words in two poems almost says it all.
